When Missy was a young girl her ambition was to be Cynthia Rhodes when she grew up. Cynthia’s ability to combine dancing and gymnastics had landed her roles in movies such as Dirty Dancing and Flash Dance as well as Toto’s Rosanna music video. The bubble burst when Missy realised that Cynthia was married to Richard Marx. Her back up plan was to become a Solid Gold Dancer…
Catherine Wait has been performing under the name Missy for over a decade. With a background in gymnastics and dance, she stumbled upon circus arts whilst completing her degree in Art Theory/History at the College of Fine Arts UNSW. Starting out with pole dancing, Missy extended her repertoire to include silks and aerial hoop as well as dabbling in doubles aerials, adagio and Spanish web.
Inspired to smash pole dancing’s strip club stereotype, Missy was at the forefront in fusing contemporary dance and narrative to the relatively new art form. This awarded her 2nd place in the Australian Pole Dance Championships in 2009 as well as being a twice running national finalist in Miss Pole Dance Australia in 2008 and 2009.
Missy’s love of performing has driven her to become a versatile artist, creating original material both as a soloist as well as collaborating in a group. She has produced shows for Fringe festivals, been part of ensemble shows for cabaret clubs, RSL’s and the Hoopla Festival, provided entertainment for big banks, alcohol companies and corporate fundraising events. Missy has performed on big stages, small stages and everything in between to a wide cross section of the community.
